Hollow Knight: Silksong May Never Come Out, But At Least This Hornet Figure Is Available Again

Sometimes, it feels like Team Cherry's Hollow Knight: Silksong, the follow-up to the beloved 2017 Souls-like metroidvania Hollow Knight, is never actually coming out. While the game still hasn't materialized, you might stave off your desire for Hollow Knight with a Nendoroid vinyl action figure of Silksong protagonist Hornet. It's currently available on Amazon for right at its $47 price--which is actually a pretty good deal, thanks to the fact that the Hornet figure is constantly selling out and thus often costs much more. See at Amazon

The Hornet vinyl figure is available through Amazon Prime right now, offered by a third-party seller, for $47. It's worth noting that there are only a handful left from this seller and others, so it's likely that this batch won't be available for very long--and that lack of supply might hike the price until more figures become available.Gallery

The figure itself is 7.5 inches tall and weighs about 10 ounces. It also features a number of poses, with the ability to move around Hornet's cloak and its needle weapon, and includes a miniature Cogfly that goes with it.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Hideo Kojima has one big regret with Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, and it's all about a song he couldn't secure the rights to

Hideo Kojima has one big regret surrounding Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, and it's all to do with one song. Be warned: story spoilers for Peace Walker follow!

Near the conclusion of the PSP game, The Boss takes control of the Peace Walker AI weapon, and has it effectively commit suicide by drowning itself. The machine, or rather, The Boss, sings the track 'Sing' by Joe Raposo, which was originally written for Sesame Street, but then shot to greater fame when it was covered by The Carpenters.

It's this moment that Kojima has a lot of regrets about. In the tweet below, the director reveals that another song was originally planned to close out The Boss' section in Peace Walker in the ending segment, but Kojima and Konami couldn't secure the rights to the song itself, even though they went and apparently visited the family that the track belongs to.

If I have one regret about PW, it’s the part when the AI weapon modeled after The Boss's personality sings a song while committing suicide by drowning. At first, I had planned to use a certain famous song that perfectly fit the "peace" and "70's" theme of the game. We kept…

Instead, Kojima had to use Sing instead, which wasn't his first choice, but is still nonetheless a "great song" according to the director. Kojima doesn't reveal which track was the first choice for The Boss' final scene, but it fit "perfectly" with Peace Walker's themes of "peace" and the 1970s at large.

Elsewhere, Kojima expands on how Peace Walker came about, since the game celebrated its fourteenth anniversary yesterday. Apparently the game was originally called Metal Gear Solid 5: Peace Walker, until Konami's marketing department "heavily opposed" the idea. We'd have to wait four more years to get the next numbered entry in the Metal Gear Solid series.

14 years since the release of “PW.”I was still in my mid-40s. At the time, many game companies were beginning to shift to developing apps for the phones. After finishing up MGS4, I felt the need for a proprietary game engine. The vertical leap of the game had to be done after the… pic.twitter.com/vZ3fyCfmkdApril 29, 2024See more

"The target age group was lowered to elementary, junior high, and high school students because it was for the PSP. The aim was to discover the younger generation and acquire fans of two generations: the kids and their parents," Kojima adds.

Oppenheimer star Emily Blunt on what her new action movie with Barbie star Ryan Gosling has in common with Barbenheimer

Last year, the world was swept up in the neon pink fever dream that was Barbenheimer – AKA, the unlikely double bill spurred by Barbie and Oppenheimer sharing a release date.

This year, Oppenheimer star Emily Blunt and Barbie star Ryan Gosling have joined forces for new action-comedy The Fall Guy – coincidentally filmed before Barbenheimer became a phenomenon – and, when we meet the duo in London to talk about the new film, Blunt shares what she thinks The Fall Guy and Barbenheimer have in common.

"What both of those films did was just to offer people an escape into a new world that seemed really unique," she tells us. "And that was sort of indicative of what we both then realized audiences were looking for, which was that escapism, and that confrontation, or escapism, or romanticism, or humour, or something as challenging as Oppenheimer: people wanted that and ran to that. And so it was one of the most moving summers for me in a big way, not only just so proud to be a part of a film that was doing that, but then [it] kind of persuades you to put your feet to the fire more, and that this is the way to go with making films, is just to keep striving for something unique.

"And everyone on Fall Guy, that's what we tried to do every day, was just try to make something to make people as happy as possible and as entertained as possible," she continues. "And I think that world that we created of things that were off the cuff, chaotic, spontaneous, is maybe what people will like about Fall Guy, I hope."

The Fall Guy sees Gosling play Colt Seavers, a stunt performer who retires from the business after a catastrophic injury. He's then called back to work on a new movie directed by his ex, Jody Moreno (Blunt), because the movie's star (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) has mysteriously vanished – and, without him, the movie can't be completed.

David Leitch directs, with the rest of the cast including Hannah Waddingham, Winston Duke, and Stephanie Hsu.

The Fall Guy will be released in cinemas across UK and Ireland from May 2, and in US theaters from May 3.

Deadpool & Wolverine Director Says Sequel Doesn't Need Any Prior MCU Knowledge

Following the launch of original Marvel series on Disney+ in 2021, there have been more than a few fans complaining about the number of MCU shows to stay on top of, in addition to multiple movies per year. However, there's only one Marvel Studios movie in 2024: Deadpool & Wolverine. And according to director Shawn Levy, you won't need to watch any previous MCU show or movie to enjoy the sequel.

"I was a good student in school," related Levy during an interview with the Associated Press. "I'll do my homework as an adult. But I am definitely not looking to do homework when I go to the movies. I very much made this film with certainly a healthy respect and gratitude towards the rabid fan base that has peak fluency in the mythology and lore of these characters and this world. But I didn't want to presume that. This movie is built for entertainment, with no obligation to come prepared with prior research."

Ironically, the Time Variance Authority from Loki will be used in this film to explain how Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool gets a new mission in the MCU multiverse, as well as the introduction of a previously unseen incarnation of Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. Presumably Levy means that Deadpool & Wolverine will adequately explain the TVA without the need to touch on anything that happened in Loki.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Knuckles Showrunner Teases More Sonic The Hedgehog TV Spin-Offs

2024 is shaping up to be a big year for the live-action Sonic The Hedgehog franchise. The Knuckles miniseries premiered on Paramount+ earlier this week, and Sonic The Hedgehog 3 is coming to theaters during the Christmas season. However, that may be far from the end of the road for Sega's iconic characters. During an interview with GamesRadar+, Knuckles showrunner and executive producer Toby Ascher hinted at more Sonic spin-offs to come.

"We have a really good plan for the future of Sonic," said Ascher. "As we grow these characters, what television has provided us with Knuckles is a moment to do a deep-dive character study into them. As we find stories we're excited about, we're going to hopefully continue to do this again."

GamesRadar+ speculates that Shadow the Hedgehog may be the character next in line for a show. And Shadow is the logical pick. His live-action debut already happened in the mid-credits scene for Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and Shadow is slated to have a major role in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Keanu Reeves will provide the voice of Shadow in the upcoming film.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Putting Microsoft’s cratering Xbox console sales in context

Enlarge / Scale is important, especially when talking about relative console sales. (credit: Aurich Lawson | Getty Images)

Yesterday, Microsoft announced that it made 31 percent less off Xbox hardware in the first quarter of 2024 (ending in March) than it had the year before, a decrease it says was "driven by lower volume of consoles sold." And that's not because the console sold particularly well a year ago, either; Xbox hardware revenue for the first calendar quarter of 2023 was already down 30 percent from the previous year.

Those two data points speak to a console that is struggling to substantially increase its player base during a period that should, historically, be its strongest sales period. But getting wider context on those numbers is a bit difficult because of how Microsoft reports its Xbox sales numbers (i.e., only in terms of quarterly changes in total console hardware revenue). Comparing those annual shifts to the unit sales numbers that Nintendo and Sony report every quarter is not exactly simple.

Context clues

Significant declines in Xbox hardware revenue for four of the last five quarters stand out relative to competitors' unit sales. (credit: Kyle Orland)

To attempt some direct contextual comparison, we took unit sales numbers for some recent successful Sony and Nintendo consoles and converted them to Microsoft-style year-over-year percentage changes (aligned with the launch date for each console). For this analysis, we skipped over each console's launch quarter, which contains less than three months of total sales (and often includes a lot of pent-up early adopter demand). We also skipped the first four quarters of a console's life cycle, which don't have a year-over-year comparison point from 12 months prior.

Switch 2 reportedly replaces slide-in Joy-Cons with magnetic attachment

Enlarge / The slide-on Joy-Con connection point shown in the center of the image may be a thing of the past on the Switch 2

The iconic slide-in "click" of the Switch Joy-Cons may be replaced with a magnetic attachment mechanism in the Switch 2, according to a report from Spanish-language gaming news site Vandal.

The site notes that this new design could make direct Switch 2 backward compatibility with existing Switch Joy-Cons "difficult." Even so, we can envision some sort of optional magnetic shim that could make older Joy-Cons attachable with the new system's magnetic connection points. Current Switch Pro Controllers, which do not physically attach to the Switch, should be fully compatible with the Switch 2, according to the report.

Vandal cites several unnamed accessory and peripheral makers who reportedly got to touch the new console inside of an opaque box, which was used to balance design secrecy with the need to provide general knowledge of the unit's dimensions. According to those sources, the Switch 2 will be "larger than the Switch, although without reaching the size of the Steam Deck."

Blizzard Announces It's Skipping BlizzCon This Year

Blizzard has decided to cancel this year’s BlizzCon. The company states the event will return in the future, but it plans to showcase upcoming games in a different manner over the coming months.

First announced in a blog post, Blizzard plans to share details on upcoming games like World of Warcraft: The War Within and Diablo IV’s Vessel of Hatred expansion at other trade shows, such as Gamescom. The company also plans to launch “multiple, global, in-person events” for Warcraft’s 30th anniversary, which are described as being “distinct” from BlizzCon.

“Our hope is that these experiences – alongside several live-streamed industry events where we’ll keep you up to date with what’s happening in our game universes – will capture the essence of what makes the Blizzard community so special,” Blizzard states in the blog post.

A Blizzard representative tells Windows Central that Blizzard made the call to cancel BlizzCon and not Microsoft, which completed its acquisition of the company last year. In a statement to the outlet, the representative says, “This is a Blizzard decision. We have explored different event formats in the past, and this isn't the first time we're skipping BlizzCon or trying something new. While we have great things to share in 2024, the timing just doesn’t line up for one single event at the end of the year.”

BlizzCon began in 2005 as an annual convention celebrating all things Blizzard. Last year's show saw the reveal of World of Warcraft’s next expansion, The War Within, as well as two other expansions coming after it. It's good that event is only taking a year off as opposed to being canned for good, and we're curious to see how the alternative events shape up over the coming months.

Alien: Romulus release date, cast, and everything else you need to know about the new movie

There are still a few months to go before Alien: Romulus arrives on the big screen, but we couldn't be more excited. The movie is the seventh installment in the Alien franchise and the first entry since 2017's Alien: Covenant and, this time, Evil Dead helmer Fede Álvarez is taking a seat in the director's chair – so expect plenty of screams and scares.

Set between the events of the first and second movies, Alien: Romulus centers around a group of young explorers in an abandoned research facility where they come face to face(hugger) with some familiar foes. While the movie is predictably still shrouded in a suitable amount of mystery, we have a trailer to dissect and some exclusive quotes from star Cailee Spaeny and Álvarez, as well as everything you need to know about the film's release date and the rest of the cast list.

Alien: Romulus release date

Alien: Romulus will be released in cinemas on August 16, 2024. The film was initially going to get a straight-to-streaming release on Hulu, but this was switched to a theatrical release right before filming kicked off.

Alien: Romulus trailer

The first Alien: Romulus teaser trailer gave us a short but sweet idea of what to expect from the movie – bloodcurdling screams, plenty of blood, and some gnarly Facehuggers. The trailer opens with some shots of abandoned corridors, while voices cry out for help in the background. "Help! Someone help me, please!" someone shouts.  "No, no, I don't… I don't know what it is!" says another, while a third cries, "Get it away from me!" Cailee Spaeny's Raines gets a very cool introduction, too, as she steps into frame holding a pulse rifle in an homage to Sigourney Weaver's Ripley in Aliens. You can read director Fede Álvarez go long on the trailer here.

Alien: Romulus plot

Alien: Romulus is set between the events of Ridley Scott's Alien and James Cameron's Aliens. "We were talking about, 'How could this be a child of the two?' So we have those heightened moments, but then proper horror," Spaeny told Total Film. Álvarez has also described the movie as a "survival horror."

The film is set to follow a group of young space colonizers who find themselves getting up close and personal with the xenomorph while scavenging a derelict research station, the Renaissance – and it seems like Spaeny's character Raines seems set to follow in the footsteps of Sigourney Weaver's Ellen Ripley. "I definitely did everything that I could to bring that character to life. Watching Sigourney play that role – she’s part of the changing of the game that those films did," Spaeny told Total Film. "I could never be her. But I injected whatever I have in me into that character, and tried to make it three-dimensional – as three-dimensional as possible. So I hope that that’s there, and it comes alive."

Alien: Romulus is a standalone story, too, according to Álvarez. "This is the way this movie works: if you haven’t seen any Alien movie ever, you’ll have a great time," he told Total Film. "You won’t feel like you’re missing out on anything. But if you’ve seen one or more – oh, boy, you’ll have a blast. At least, I hope you will! The reality is that it is a standalone story, but it’s filled with references to every movie. It is truly a love letter to all the other movies."

If you were wondering about the relevance of the title, Álvarez confirmed that it's inspired by the myth of Romulus and Remus. "If people aren’t familiar, it’s the creation myth of Rome. Romulus killed Remus. It’s not a siblinghood that went down the right path. [Alien: Romulus] is a film about siblinghood. A lot of the character stories are related to siblinghood," he teased.

Alien: Romulus cast

Priscilla and Civil War star Cailee Spaeny leads the cast of Alien: Romulus, alongside a group of other rising stars as her fellow space travelers.

* David Jonsson – Andy

Today's Dragon's Dogma 2 Update Makes Dragonsplague More Visible, Pawns Less Annoying

Dragon's Dogma 2 launched a little over a month ago and has already managed to sell 2.5 million copies, but Capcom is still releasing updates to patch minor issues with the game. While a large volume of complaints have been about the lack of a performance mode, this update (like the last update) does not address that issue. However, it does aim to clean up a number of irritating errors involving the behavior of pawns, the player's AI companions.

An update for Dragon's Dogma 2 is now live on all platforms!

It includes adjustments to the dragonsplague, Pawn behavior and fixes to various issues.

See details on the official website:
https://t.co/waEdG0ntSv />

We will keep you posted for future updates.
— Dragon's Dogma (@DragonsDogma) April 25, 2024

For starters, this update makes it easier to detect dragonsplague, an affliction that, if untreated, can lead to devastating consequences for your pawns and your world. It's also contagious, so it's a good idea to nip it in the bud as soon as you first encounter it. When afflicted, pawns' eyes will glow red – after this update, they'll glow more noticeably. The update also causes the disease to infect pawns less frequently.

Pawns should also be a lot less annoying now, thanks to a whole slate of minor refinements to their behavior. They'll jump off cliffs less often (which is hilarious but a wild inconvenience), say some lines less often, say other lines at more appropriate times and become less likely to offer to be hired while passing by on the street. They're one of the highlights of the game, so anything done to make their constant presence more consistent is always welcome.

There are also smaller adjustments, like adding the ability to zoom in on a character's face in shops, preventing monster attacks in town from leading to the player's arrest, and other miscellaneous bug fixes. You can read the full list of updates, as well as all past updates, here.

Deathbound, A Single-Player Party-Based Soulslike, Hits PlayStation, Xbox, And PC This Year

Developer Trialforge Studio and publisher Tate Multimedia revealed Deathbound, a new Soulslike with a unique class-based twist, last August. At the time, PC was its only platform but now, Game Informer can exclusively reveal Deathbound will also come to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S day-in-date with PC later this year.

As we learned with Deathbound's reveal last year, the game wears its Soulslike inspiration on its sleeve. However, it aims to differentiate itself within the ever-growing genre with what Trialforge calls a single-player party-based system. Players will control a single vessel that channels various heroes known as the fallen. These are individual characters, each with unique skill sets, combat styles, and lore, that share the player-controlled vessel. As such, players can switch between different characters, but they'll need to do so with caution as they aren't all necessarily in alliance with each other.

Check out the newest Deathbound trailer for yourself below:

"The relationships between characters also must be taken into effect as it greatly impacts gameplay," a press release reads. "The Church of Death and Cult of Life are at odds with one another. Aligning opposing factions close to one another in the vessel will cause conflict, resulting in consequential combat effects. Alternatively, strong synergies with shared beliefs may offer combat buffs that can spell disaster for the ruthless boss awaiting steel and magic. No matter the creed, the fallen must fight as one."

Trialforge says in combat, players will charge something called a sync meter that's shared across the fallen within the vessel. When the right opportunity shows itself, players can dispel the sync meter to unleash a devastating "Morphstrike, with the combined power of the party."

Deathbound will hit PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam, GOG, and Epic Games Store sometime this year. If you're curious how it plays, there's a demo available right now on Steam.

For more, read Game Informer's write-up about Deathbound's reveal from last year. After that, check out our list of the top 10 best Soulslike games.

A major reason Bill SkarsgÄrd took on his first big action movie is because he loves MMA and UFC, says Boy Kills World director

While he may have played the Marquis in John Wick 4, Bill SkarsgĂ„rd didn’t get to partake in much action in that hit franchise. In fact, the actor is probably better known for his horror performances, thanks to his terrifying portrayal of Pennywise in It, as well as roles in Barbarian and Hemlock Grove.

This all means that when it came to casting his action thriller Boy Kills World, director Moritz Mohr tells GamesRadar+ and the Inside Total Film podcast that SkarsgĂ„rd wasn’t his first thought.

"I saw him obviously in the It movies and a couple more movies and I was like, 'Yeah, fantastic actor,' but I would be lying if I told you I was pointing at him going like, 'Yeah, he needs to be the next action guy,'" Mohr says. "I didn't even know he was interested in that and we were looking at one point at action guys. Who can do a lot of the action themselves? So we don't have to double everything and it was coming from a very practical side and somebody suggested Bill, I was like, 'Well, would he do it?'"

After he was mooted for the lead role, Mohr said he started plotting out how it could work to cast him as Boy. The lead character is a deaf and mute man on a mission of revenge to kill those who destroyed his family. Trained by an elite warrior (played by The Raid star Yayan Ruhian), he’s a weapon of destruction, which he proves in some seriously brutal action sequences.

"He's amazing," adds the director. "He's super expressive with his face, that alone is one big selling point for Boy and he’s a very physical actor but no action movies come to mind. [On] that first call with him, he was amazing and I was like, 'So yeah, we got the acting part covered, of course, you would knock it out of the park and I know that, but are you up for doing action?' and he's like, 'Absolutely. Big MMA, UFC fan. I want to get in shape. I want to train. I want to do this the right way.' I was like, 'Okay, if you say, so I'm inclined to trust you there.'"

Mohr goes on to say that he was so impressed with the actor’s transformation for the final movie. "We sent somebody over to Stockholm to train with him, the basics, and he really committed to that part," he adds. "When I saw him on the first day of shooting without a shirt, that was something, he really delivered on his promise."

Alongside SkarsgĂ„rd as Boy, the movie also stars Jessica Rothe as June 27, Michelle Dockery as Melanie van der Koy, and Stranger Things actor Brett Gelman as Gideon van der Koy, members of a brutal family ruling the dystopian locale. Hilariously too, Bob’s Burgers star H. Jon Benjamin voices Boy’s inner voice, a delightful disconnect from SkarsgĂ„rd's action hero.

Elsewhere in our conversation with Mohr, he shared some insight into the R-rating and working with producer Sam Raimi. For our full chat listen to the Inside Total Film podcast, out later this week.

Boy Kills World is in US theaters and UK cinemas on April 26. You can also check out our guides to all the other upcoming movies on the way in 2024 and beyond as well as the best action movies of all time.

Helldivers 2 dev asks players to stop deliberately shooting at soldiers with that sweet blue pre-order bonus armor that's apparently a yogurt salesman uniform

Helldivers 2 players and Super Earth denizens, we have a new order from High Command: stop killing soldiers wearing blue pre-order bonus armor just because you're jealous. It's really not cool, nor is it democratic in the slightest.

For some context, there's a stylish blue suit of armor that was only available as a pre-order bonus and is thus not purchasable to anyone that didn't pre-order the game. In Helldivers canon, the armor is part of a successful marketing campaign promoting a frozen yogurt brand. However, what's not so chill is that some players have started a coordinated effort to intentionally fire at these blue freedom fighters "on site" out of spite.

Well, as if it wasn't clear enough that this is absolutely unhinged, treasonous behavior, we now have official word from the puppet masters at Arrowhead that, yeah, please stop doing that.

"It has come to the attention of Super Earth High Command that official SUMY Corporation Frozen Yoghurt salesmen have been deliberately targeted while on the battlefield," reads a tweet from Arrowhead. "This man is your friend! He fights for your freedom, librrrrrty, and frosty treats!"

Speaking candidly, this right here is precisely where the Helldivers 2 community's weird commitment to the "bit" crosses a line. The folks online villainizing blue armor wearers are doing so while roleplaying as Super Earth soldiers - which can be fun! - but when it starts interfering with others' enjoyment of the game, that's when it's gone too far. There were probably a bunch of people who pre-ordered the game specifically for the cosmetics, one of which is now a handicap simply because people are being weird.

How The Intricate, Secret-Packed Destiny 2 Collector's Editions Are Made

Lots of games are released with collector's editions, but few are as involved as those that accompany Destiny 2 expansions. The universe of Bungie's shooter MMO is incredibly dense and has seen reams of lore and tons of secrets come and go over its 10-year history. With its collector's editions, Bungie translates a lot of the experience of uncovering Destiny's story and unlocking its secrets into physical objects. A Destiny 2 collector's edition doesn't just come with a statue of some real-world version of an in-game object you can put on your desk--it's also usually full of lore, mysteries, and puzzles that offer extra rewards and a deeper understanding of the game world.

With the collector's edition for The Final Shape, the next big Destiny 2 expansion and the culmination of the last 10 years of its story, Bungie looked forward at what's coming in the story--the final confrontation with the Witness, the story's ultimate villain, inside the ever-present god-like robot, the Traveler. But it also looked backward to the original Destiny and how far players have come. The package includes items that fit both themes. There's the Entelechy lore book, a compilation of pieces of information about the Witness compiled by Eido, an Eliksni scribe who was a big part of one of the seasonal stories last year. And there's an autograph book signed by and full of well-wishes from various in-game characters, some of whom have only appeared in deep-cut lore entries. The Final Shape marks the culmination of the 10-year story arc that began with the release of Destiny in 2024.

The centerpiece of The Final Shape Collector's Edition is a replica of the first Destiny's social space, the Tower, which is a real-life version of a replica statue seen in-game in the office of Commander Zavala. It also features three small figurines that represent the three leaders of the Vanguard: Zavala, Ikora Rey, and Cayde-6.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Almost every character to ever appear in X-Men comics is featured on this absolutely massive X-Men #700 variant cover

X-Men #700 arrives this June with a main cover that sums up the Krakoa era. But the mega-milestone issue's just-revealed variant cover by Scott Koblish goes a step further, summing up the entire 61 year history of Marvel's merry mutants with a wraparound illustration that features literally hundreds of characters.

Since the X-Men debuted in 1963, the team has gone through dozens of line-ups including hundreds of mutants, and fought nearly as many villains. Koblish's cover is a veritable Where's Waldo for X-Men fans seeking out their favorite mutants, with far, far too many characters depicted on the cover to name here.

Seriously, look close, cause there's an almost certain chance your personal faves are on there, even if they're relatively obscure:

"Showcasing the entirety of the X-Men’s 60-year publication history, including core X-Men series as well as spinoffs and limited series, this breathtaking group shot spotlights A-List X-Men, obscure mutants, super villains, allies, superhero guest stars, and much more," reads Marvel's announcement of Koblish's variant cover. "Test your knowledge of the mutant mythos by finding your favorites and identifying as many characters as you can!"

In addition to X-Men #700 (which also doubles as X-Men #35 in the title's current volume), Koblish's wraparound cover will also appear as a variant for all three of the core titles of July's subsequent From the Ashes relaunch of the X-Men line.

Those titles are, in order of launch, writer Jed MacKay and artist Ryan Stegman's X-Men #1 on July 10, writer Gail Simone and artist David Marquez's Uncanny X-Men #1 on August 7, and writer Eve L. Ewing and artist Carmen Carnero's Exceptional X-Men #1 on September 4.

From the Ashes will also include new titles for X-Force and Jean Grey/Phoenix, and a revival of cult classic early '00s title NYX centering on Ms. Marvel/Kamala Khan and Wolverine/Laura Kinney. More titles, including new series for Wolverine, X-Factor, and Storm, are also expected to be announced.

X-Men #700/35 goes on sale June 5.

Despite US Sanctions, TV Shows May Have Unknowingly Used North Korean Animators

Multiple major entertainment companies, including Prime Video and Max, may have unknowingly outsourced animation work on their shows to North Korea, despite US sanctions on the country. Cybersecurity researcher Nick Roy has been scanning North Korea's tiny internet presence, spotting new websites coming online and providing a glimpse of its digital life for almost 10 years.

However, in December last year, Roy discovered a weak cloud server on a North Korean IP address containing thousands of animation files that hinted North Korea was working on international TV projects. The country had sanctions placed upon the regime due to its ongoing human rights abuses and nuclear warfare programs, prohibiting US companies from working with Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) companies or individuals.

Wired reported that the cache had animation cells, videos, and even notes discussing the work and going into changes that needed to be made to ongoing projects. Some images appeared from an Amazon Prime Video superhero show and an upcoming children's anime at HBO. The server is still live, but strangely stopped being used in February. While there is a login page, the contents can be accessed freely. "I found the login page after I found all the exposed files," Roy said.Continue Reading at GameSpot

"Even Baldur's Gate 3 became so good because of Early Access," which is why the Dead Cells devs are using the same trick for their roguelike Prince of Persia

The Rogue Prince of Persia was a big surprise when its existence first came to light, and developer Evil Empire knows it. The studio is starting a series of community update videos to explain why this game exists and what you expect from it, and the first entry in that series includes some very interesting tidbits.

"Hands up, it's a strange one," Evil Empire marketing manager Matt Houghton admits in a community update video. It's launching as an Early Access game, it's coming from Evil Empire, the studio that originally spun up to create Dead Cells DLC, and it comes hot on the heels of another 2D Prince of Persia game released just a few months ago. These videos, then, are attempts to explain "just what the hell is going on."

With support for Dead Cells coming to an end, the devs at Evil Empire now "just want to make our own games, not just work on other people's," as Houghton explains. The Rogue Prince of Persia is, of course, still somebody else's IP even if it's being developed from the ground up at Evil Empire, and the genesis of the licensing deal sounds like pure happenstance.

"Around five or six years ago, some members of Evil Empire were at GDC, the convention for game developers, and they had a dinner with some people from Ubisoft," Houghton says. "Refreshments were flowing, and someone threw out the idea, 'wouldn't it be cool if we could use what we learned on Dead Cells and make our own 2D action platformer version of Prince of Persia?' Obviously, everyone said, 'well yeah, that's a good idea, we'll see,' and then life continued on." Eventually, Evil Empire submitted a formal pitch for its Prince of Persia game, and Ubisoft contracted them to make it.

Since then, Houghton says "we've had a small team of just 15 to 20 people working on the game for the last three years." Evil Empire is primarily known for its work on Dead Cells, and The Rogue Prince of Persia is similarly a roguelike action platformer, but Houghton says you shouldn't expect the new game to be a rehash of the studio's previous work.

"I want to make it clear that this is not a reskin or a clone," Houghton says. "We use what we learned on that game for sure, but we were taken to make a Prince of Persia game, and that is what we've done. This is a game designed from the beginning to be a Prince of Persia game first and foremost. A smaller version, yes, but a Prince of Persia nonetheless."

Despite Prince of Persia's origins as a 2D platformer - a relatively slow-paced cinematic platformer, at that - The Rogue is predominately inspired by the more modern entries, emphasizing "fluid acrobatic traversal" and "fast-paced combat."

The Rogue Prince of Persia hits Steam Early Access next month, and Houghton says that's "a deliberate choice for how we want the game to evolve. We saw how Early Access helped the development process of Dead Cells, and of course other great indie games like Hades, Subnautica, and Slay the Spire." Houghton also notes that "even Baldur's Gate 3 became so good because of Early Access."

Check out our hands-on preview of The Rogue Prince of Persia if you're looking for more on what to expect from the game.

Tales Of The Shire's First Trailer Reveals It Is Middle-Earth Animal Crossing With Hobbits

Developer Wētā Workshop and publisher Private Division have released the first trailer for Tales of the Shire, and it showcases what looks like a Middle-earth Animal Crossing game with hobbits and a cozy place to call home. This trailer arrives after the companies teased releasing the first Tales of the Shire trailer this month, following the game's reveal last year.

In Tales of the Shire, players will create their own Hobbit before setting forth into Bywater, the shire setting of the game. Here, players can forage fruits and herbs, tend to gardens, fish, trade with townsfolk, and more, all while working to help Bywater, which has not yet been established as an official village in Hobbiton, flourish.

"Greet comfort at the door as you deocrate your own Hobbit hole, tend to your garden, fish at the clear ponds, forage wild fruits and herbs, or trade with townsfolk, " a press release reads. "Prepare homemade meals to share with fellow Hobbits and foster relationships. With much to see and lots more to eat, enjoy days of splendor in the picturesque forests, lakes, and pastures."

Check out the first official Tales of the Shire trailer for yourself below:

Tales of the Shire's Hobbit hole customization features grid-free placement, allowing players to put furniture and home decor anywhere they want, however they want. You can harvest seasonal crops and flowers as time passes in your homestead, and stock your Hobbit hole pantry afterward. Plus, you can cook using unique recipes, partake in second breakfast, and even host dinner parties with other Hobbits in Bywater. Sharing meals with guests will create new relationships to cultivate as the seasons go by.

Wētā Workshop says ever-changing weather will affect daily routines and bring seasonal surprises to Bywater. You can obtain rewards through story progression all while meeting familiar and iconic characters, too. You can trade with them for upgrades to skills, clothes, your home, and more, and joining clubs and completing missions and daily activities will further Bywater's status as an official village.

Here are some screenshots from Tales of the Shire:

Embracer Group To Split Into Three Companies, Including One Called 'Middle-earth Enterprises & Friends'

Embracer Group, the company that recently sold Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake developer Saber Interactive for $500 million, has announced its plans to split into three individual, publicly traded companies. As such, Embracer Group as we know it will be no more; instead, it will largely consist of Asmodee, Coffee Stain & Friends, and Middle-earth Enterprises & Friends.

Each of these companies will be run individually and traded publicly in the market, with IP and franchises under the Embracer Group umbrella spread across them. This separation follows a rocky period for Embracer Group, which is behind layoffs at companies like Black Forest Games and Eidos-MontrĂ©al after a planned $2 billion deal with Saudi Arabia-backed Savvy Games Group fell through in 2023.

"During the past years, the Group has made significant investments in acquisitions and into a strategy of accelerated organic growth. To further realize the untapped potential in Embracer Group and better optimize the use of its resources, Embracer Group announced a restructuring program in June 2023 divided into different phases lasting until March 2024," the company writes in a press release. "Focus of the program has been cost savings, capital allocation, efficiency and consolidation, while also divesting selected studios.

Following a careful and thorough review, it is the assessment of the Board of Directors that the current Group structure does not create optimal conditions for future value creation both for Embracer Group's shareholders and other stakeholders. To continue the transformation of Embracer Group into the future for the benefit of all employees, gamers and shareholders, the Board of Directors and the executive management have therefore decided to propose a separation of Embracer Group, creating three separate publicly listed entities: 'Asmodee,' 'Coffee Stain & Friends,' and 'Middle-earth Enterprises & Friends.'"

Embracer Group says each of these entities will have its own balance sheet, financial targets and structure, and allocation strategy. In short, each of these companies will be essentially independent of each other, even if they're formed from the same umbrella.

Middle-earth Enterprises & Friends

After this new split, Middle-earth Enterprises & Friends is "intended to remain a creative powerhouse in AAA game development and publishing for PC/console," a press release reads. It will remain the stewards of The Lord of the Rings and Tomb Raider IPs, with its main focus being the former.

It will consist of studios like Crystal Dynamics, Dambuster Studios, Eidos-MontrĂ©al, Flying Wild Hog Studios, Tripwire, Vertigo Games, Warhorse Studios, 4A Games, and more, with IPs including Dead Island, Killing Floor, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, The Lord of the Rings, Metro, and Tomb Raider.

Coffee Stain & Friends

Embracer Group says this company "is intended to consist of leading publishers and developers focused on a variety of games for PC, console, and mobile, including community-driven free-to-play games, LiveOps games, and indie/AA games." It will operate under two segments, according to the company: Premium and Free-To-Play.

Its "Premium" operations include studios like Coffee Stain, Ghost Ship, Tarsier, Tuxedo Labs, THQ Nordic, and Amplifier Game Invest. Its IPs include Deep Rock Galactic, Goat Simulator, Satisfactory, Wreckfest, Teardown, Valheim, and more than 200 others.

Its "Free-To-Play" operations include studios like Easybrain, Deca, CrazyLabs, and Cryptic, with IPs in its wheelhouse including Soduku.com, Blockudoku, Jigsaw Puzzle, Star Trek Online, D&D Neverwinter Online, and more.

Asmodee

Asmodee consists of 23 fully owned studios and more than 300 IPs and consists of the tabletop games section of Embracer Group. It will continue focusing on tabletop properties while collaborating in transmedia partnerships for IPs like The Lord of the Rings and others in the Embracer wheelhouse. "As a global leader in board and trading card games, with a proven track-record of profitable growth, Asmodee is well-positioned to build on its strategy and continue to prosper as a standalone entity."

Its IPs include Ticket to Ride, 7 Wonders, Azul, Catan, Dobble, Exploding Kittens, and other board games based on The Lord of the Rings, Marvel, Game of Thrones, Netflix, Lego, and Star Wars.

"This transformation is an important step in unlocking shareholder value," chair of the Embracer Group board Kicki Wallje-Lund writes in a press release. "With this new structure, the three entities will be able to focus on executing their core strategies and leveraging their own strengths, providing more differentiated and distinct equity stories to both existing and new shareholders."

Embracer Group co-founder and CEO Lars Wingefors adds, "This is the start of a new chapter, a chapter that I intend to remain part of as an active, committed, and supportive shareholder of all three new entities, with an evergreen horizon. This move toward three independent companies reinforces Embracer's vision of backing entrepreneurs and creators with a long-term mindset, allowing them to continue to deliver unforgettable experiences for gamers and fans across the globe."

Middle-earth Enterprises & Friends will remain within the current publicly listed Embracer Group, which itself will eventually be renamed. Asmodee and Coffee Stain & Friends will hit the market as separate companies within 12 months, during the 2025 calendar year.

How do you feel about this split in Embracer Group? Let us know in the comments below!

Today’s ‘Weaver’ Answer: April 22nd 2024 Hints and Solution

Here is the answer to the Weaver puzzle for today, released on April 22nd, 2024, and some hints to help you solve it.

Weaver is an online puzzle game where players are given two words and the aim of the game is to ‘weave’ your way from the first word to the second word. The way in which you do this is by entering a four-letter word, which only changes one letter from the starter word to get you closer to the bottom word.

You need to change one letter in each subsequent word to get to the end word, which could be done by changing one letter in the bottom word, making the optimal words four, but this may not be the case for all Weaver puzzles.
Weaver – How To Play

Due to the nature of this game, there are multiple solutions as you can use different words. We will be showing you one of the solutions and will try to get the optimum amount of words as possible.

There are different ways in which you can tackle the puzzle as you could work from the bottom upwards instead to see if that helps you, but you will need to remember the words you choose in your head or write them down, so keep a pen and paper at hand if you would prefer to solve the puzzle like that.

We will also be giving you some hints for the puzzle first to help you to solve the puzzle as well as the answer at the bottom of the article.

Quordle Answers April 22nd 2024 – 819 Hints Today

Quordle 819 is now available to complete. Here are our hints and answers for the four-word puzzle released on 22nd April 2024.

Quordle has become a huge success after being released as a prototype with a number of bugs and usability issues at the end of January. It has now been taken over by Merriam-Webster.

It is the most popular daily word game outside of Wordle due to the increased level of difficulty. Players must guess four five-letter words in as few as nine attempts, rather than guessing one word.

If you’re new to the game, you can practice in the dedicated practice mode, which provides players with an unlimited number of Quordle word puzzles, none of which count towards a user’s overall stats, including the win streak.

Every day at midnight, the daily game mode gives players a new set of words for the Quordle puzzle.

Completing the daily mode puzzle will add to a user’s stats, including their win streak if all four words are correctly guessed.

Some of the daily Quordle words can be difficult to guess correctly within the allotted number of guesses. As a result, we’ve been providing our own hints alongside the answer for the past few months.

If you’re struggling with Quordle 819, which was released on 22nd April 2024, you can use our hints and answers below.

Today’s NYT ‘Strands’ #50 Hints, Spangram Answers April 22nd, 2024 – Word Solutions (4/22/24)

Here are the answers for the NYT Strands puzzle #50 today, released on April 22nd, 2024, and some hints to help you solve them.

The New York Times are known for the wide range of games they publish for readers to complete on the daily. They had also published the viral word game, Wordle, in 2022, to add to their collection.

A new game has been released by the paper, called Strands, which is currently in beta. In this game, there is a theme of words on a board and you need to find the theme related words.

Once you have found a theme related word, it will stay filled in blue and to create these words, you will need to drag or type the letters. All of the letters on the board are used to make up words for the theme and the letters do not overlap into other words.
NYT Strands – How to Play

There is also a “spangram” which is a word on the board that describes the theme of the puzzle for the day. It will touch two opposite sides of the board and may be two words.

Once you have found the spangram word, it will stay highlighted in yellow.

An example of a spangram is FRUIT, and the other themed words would be PEAR, BANANA and APPLE.
NYT Strands – How to Play

If you are struggling to find any words relating to the theme, you can try and find other words on the board, which will not stay highlighted, but will help you to get hints. You will need to find three non-theme words to get a hint.

‘Wordle’ Answer Today 1038 April 22nd 2024 – Hints and Solution (4/22/24)

Here is the Wordle answer today for the 1038 word, released on April 22nd, 2024 and some hints to help you solve it.

Wordle is a very popular word game that has gone viral due to the results being posted all over social media by players and the simplicity of the game. The aim is to guess the five-letter American English word in six guesses or less.

There are no initial clues given as to what the word could be, but once you have made a guess, the tiles will change colour letting you know more about the letters in the word. The three different colours the tiles could change to are grey, yellow, or green.

Grey indicates that the letter you guessed is not in the word at all, so you should avoid using it in future guesses.

Yellow indicates that the letter does appear in the word, but not in the position you have it in now.

Green indicates that you have guessed the correct letter and placed it in the correct location, which is the colour you want to see!
Wordle Game – How to Play

There is also a hard mode for the game in which you are forced to use any correctly guessed letters from the previous row in every guess you make.

You may already do this, but there are times when there are multiple answers for the Wordle and you need to guess a word that contains the potential letters to help you solve the Wordle, which you will not be able to do with this mode.

You can always turn it back off during the game as well if you find it too difficult.
